The story of STIR has its roots in the early Seventies, when Michele Damato, sensing the potential of the plastics sector, founded a company specialising in the production of PVC Compound in Barletta in 1973. Thanks to a far-sighted entrepreneurial vision, a constant commitment to innovation and the quality of its solutions, the company embarked on a path of continuous growth that, within a few decades, made it one of the sector's reference players and the most important in Southern Italy in its field of production.
In 2013, confirming a structural and organisational evolution geared towards the future, STIR became a group holding, separating production activities from commercial and distribution ones. A strategic choice that further strengthened the competitiveness and development capacity of the entire group.
Today STIR S.p.A., led by the third generation of the Damato family, continues to combine tradition, expertise and innovation, pursuing sustainable growth and consolidating its presence in national and international markets.
Michele Damato founded STIR S.p.A. in Barletta and started the production of PVC Compounds, laying the foundations of a business destined to grow for over half a century.
To meet growing production and logistics needs, the company moved to the plant at Via Trani 177, in Barletta, where it still has its operating headquarters.
A highly automated plant and a modern research and quality control laboratory came into operation, ensuring ever higher standards on every batch.
STIR significantly broadened the range of plastics distributed, expanding the service offered to local converters and producers.
The company extended its scope to the distribution of polyolefins — polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) — alongside its historic PVC business.
The PVC production activities were spun off into the new company STIR Compounds: STIR S.p.A. took on the role of holding, separating production and distribution.
Pasqua Angela Damato became Chairwoman and CEO, the first woman to lead the group in its fiftieth anniversary year. The third generation of the family joined the Board of Directors.
STIR is today the largest player in Southern Italy in the sector: present throughout Italy with six warehouses, ESG-rated and partner of the leading international polyolefin producers.
Half a century of activity in the plastics sector has made STIR a reference point for industry in Southern Italy. On these solid roots we build our next goals: an ever more widespread logistics network, new services and sustainable growth targets to support our customers into the future.
